Artist Spotlight

MonChérie

MonChérie is one of the most dynamic young music artists of this generation. Born and raised on the small island of St. Lucia, this Caribbean beauty discovered her passion to sing at the tender age of five, and captured the adoration of those she encountered from the first moment she picked up a microphone.

As a child, she represented her country in various pageants, most notably a pageant in St. Martin, where she was awarded best promotional speech and Ms. Congeniality. At that moment, it became evident to her family and others that she possessed a gift she would one day share with the world.

MonChérie was influenced by female reggae and dancehall music trailblazers such as Lady Saw and Patra, who helped plant the seed for her vivacious and fearless approach to her craft. She mimicked their aggressive and sensual styles, but added her own unique musical taste – an infusion of reggae-dancehall, pop and R&B sounds.

MonChérie’s goal has always been to inspire others. She grew up in poverty in the city of Castries, with hunger, violence and death right at her doorstep. Her work ethic and determination is something she credits to her difficult upbringing. “It doesn’t matter where you come from, who your parents are or what you have been through. Only you can stand in the way of your success,” she said.

However, also on her island is a joy and appreciation for life that she makes sure to capture in every song. To reflect those realities, her music is a balance of

testimony and fun, as she certainly has her share of club and party tracks. Her music is a pathway directly into some of her most intimate thoughts, feelings and life experiences. It is also her form of escape and therapy. She once said: “Singing is my safe haven – a place where I can express myself and be happy no matter how bad my life is at the moment.”

In December 2013, MonChérie made her official introduction into the music world with “No Santa” a sexy and up-tempo song that captured the attention of fans from all over the Caribbean, the U.S and Europe. She garnered media coverage in various blogs and news publications in 2014, and even on top radio stations such as New York City’s 107.5 FM WBLS, where “No Santa” was heard on Dahved Levy’s Caribbean Fever show.

MonChérie continues to make noise in the industry, and her fan-base is growing due to her enormous presence on social media and a bevy of high-octane hits. In the summer of 2014, she issued a female response to reggae artist Kranium’s song “Nobody Has to Know.

In November 2014, she released her second major single “Billy Boom,” which is currently capturing the attention of major figures in the entertainment industry and setting the tone for a successful and long-term career in music.
